iTunes in Linux

Amongst the thousands claiming that it is impossible, I have a working version of iTunes playing right now running Ubuntu Linux.

Better yet, It's simple anyone can do it thanks to a few programs. Here's how it's done:

The key: Play On Linux. this is a great linux program that loads and configures wine on your linux machine, then gives you a nice interface similar to synaptic package manager that allows you to search and install windows programs in linux.

Once you have play on linux installed just find iTunes under the multimedia category, and install!

It's really that simple.

Problems, and solutions: At first I did have a few problems, the store and account setting were incredibly slow, but pacience paid off and I was able to update my account to add the new computer and started listening to my music. Then the audio was pretty buggy like the sound of a disc skipping.

So i went to the main play on linux window, and clicked iTunes 7 and configure this application button at the top.
Next i clicked forward then configure wine and forward again.
A new widow opens and I clicked the Audio tab.
It automatically updates the audio settings to select a driver.
Works perfectly now! no skips no glitches, smooth playback.

I did realize that it takes over the sound card, and no other sounds work until you close out iTunes completely.
If just closeing itunes doesnt work try opening Playonlinux and click the close all button, then your regular audio works again.

My Setup:
Ubuntu 9.10 Linux (just upgraded, but it was working on 9.04 as well)
Acer 5516 - AMD Athlon 64
iTunes 7
